“What I’ve learnt from the crisis? Don’t worry, you’re not alone, you’ll find a solution.”
Martine Jamoulle

Why did you choose engineering?

I always liked mathematics. When you have a challenge you can calculate it, be creative and solve it. This is not just feminine intuition (laughs). Within just a few calculations you can have a huge, beautiful construction.

What advice would you offer women considering a career in engineering?

If you’re an engineer, you’re still an engineer, regardless of whether you’re a man or a woman. If you enjoy engineering, just go for it! You’ll always have new problems to solve and interesting projects to work on.

Women have a major asset — sensitivity. They are more adaptable and can easily understand and fit in with a wide variety of different people. This diplomacy is important and helps them work effectively with colleagues and with people external to the company.

What makes Knauf Insulation special in your opinion?

Knauf Insulation is a huge company, but we are all working together and towards the same objectives. It’s great to work with such enthusiast colleagues.

What have been the key challenges of recent months? And how did you resolve them?

To combine home-working with children — homework, logistics and so on. The situation was not easy for anyone and the challenge was to find a place for everyone to get on with their activities. Sometimes it also meant beginning work earlier and adapting working hours to be more effective.

What positive lessons have you learnt from the crisis?

Don’t worry, you’re not alone, you’ll find a solution.
